Graveside services for Elsie Jane Maltby were held at 2 p.m. Monday, April 20, 2020, at the Carmen City Cemetery with Rev. Cody Stinnett officiating. The service was livestreamed on the Marshall Funeral Home Facebook page. Arrangements were under the direction of Wentworth Mortuary LLC.

Elsie Jane (Cheney) Maltby, daughter of the late George Albert and Viola Ann (Kendall) Cheney, was born January 15, 1942, at Manchester, Oklahoma, and passed away April 15, 2020, at Enid, Oklahoma, at the age of 78 years and 3 months.

Elsie graduated from Lamont High School and was a member of the Lamont Baptist Church. On August 30, 1961, she was united in marriage to George William Maltby at Lamont. They made their home in Newkirk, Tonkawa and later Cherokee. In the mid '70s they moved to the Carmen area where they have remained. She enjoyed crocheting, arts and crafts, and drawing and painting. She also enjoyed fishing and camping. She ran an in-home daycare for a time and loved each child she cared for as her own.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a grandchild, Presley Puffinbarger; and her siblings, Lucille Walborn, Leroy Cheney, Wanda True, Frances Gunning and Charles Cheney.

She is survived by her husband, Bill Maltby (of Carmen); her children, Rosann Highfill and husband Alvin (of Driftwood), Kathy Montgomery and husband Mark (of Bridgeville, Pennsylvania), Chris Maltby and wife Mary (of Pratt, Kansas), Janet Stinnett of Carmen, George Maltby Jr. and wife Gayle (of Carmen), Tonya Morgan and husband Shane (of Burlington), and Kayla Fleer and husband Robert (of Drummond); one sister, Teresa Kirkland and husband Gene (of Monkey Island); 22 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; other relatives and friends.

Memorial contributions may be made through the mortuary to the Carmen Fire and Rescue.
