Carmen Cemetery


Carmen – Services for James R. "Jim" Beckwith, 88, were at 2 PM Friday at Wentworth Mortuary Chapel with the Rev. J. M. Lemmon officiating. Burial was at Carmen City Cemetery.

He died Tuesday at an Okeene hospital. He was born September 23, 1897, on a farm Southwest of Aline to Gilbert J. And Anna Sophia Doak Beckwith. He attended Oakdale School. June 12, 1917, he married Lora Hendrix in Alva. They farmed and lived Southwest of Aline. He also was active in the horse industry and helped train race horses.

May 12th, 1941, he married Ida Mueller in Great Bend, Kansas. They made their home in Aline and Carmen. She preceded him in death October 21, 1975. He was a member of the Carmen Assembly of God Church.

Survivors include four daughters, Mrs. Bessie Neal, Mrs. Robert (Juanita) Tyrrell and Wanda Jeanne Beckwith, all of Cherokee, and Mrs. Roy (Leona) Worton, Wichita; a sister, Mrs. Melvin (Dorothy) Anderson, Liberal, Kansas; three brothers, Guy, Thayer, Kansas, John, Cleo Springs, and Bill, Lahoma; nine grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents and five brothers.

Memorials may be made to the After 55 Club in Carmen.
