Covington – funeral services for Rose E. Amis, 86, who died late Wednesday evening in Midland, Michigan, will be at 11 AM Saturday in the first Christian Church at Covington with chaplain Michael Britton officiating.
Graveside rites will be at 3:30 PM in the Carmen City Cemetery at Carmen with the Rev. Morris Cook officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of the Wentworth Mortuary of Carmen.
Mrs. Amis was born January 11, 1896, in Carmen, the daughter of John and Sylvia Sutter. She graduated from Carmen high school and was a member of Carmen's state championship basketball team in 1912. She worked for Ford Motor Company in Carmen.
She married Harold W. Amis October 18, 1922, in Carmen. They lived in Covington and Mrs. Amis worked for the U. S. postal department in 1924 to 1933. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star and was worthy grand matron of Oklahoma in 1944 – 45.
Mrs. Amis was a member of the first Christian Church in Covington, had served on the official church board and was pianist for 50 years. She was also pianist for the Rotary Club. Mrs. Amis was a tax consultant, was Secretary – Treasurer of the IMO Oil and Gas Company, and was an honorary life member of the 4 – H clubs.
She received the Award of Merit from the Red Cross and was named Oklahoma Woman of the Year. Mrs. Amis was state Republican committee member and precinct chairman for 30 years. She was a member of the Home Demonstration Club.
Mrs. Amis is survived by a daughter, Mrs. B. B. (Haroldine) Dally, Midland; three grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Clara Crain, Carmen and Mrs. Ella Todd, Pueblo, Colorado.
