Carmen Cemetery


Memorial services for Lois Kassik were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, September 17, 2022, at Marshall Funeral Chapel with Pastor Chris Ruwaldt officiating. A private interment was held prior to the service under the direction of Marshall Funeral Home of Alva.

Lois Edna (Behm) Kassik, daughter of the late Charles and Beulah Inez (Beecher) Behm, was born August 28, 1920, at the Behm family farm west of Carmen, Oklahoma, and passed away September 14, 2022, at Alva, Oklahoma, at the age of 102 years and 17 days.

Lois attended Carmen Public School, graduating with the class of 1938 and then went to Hills Business University. She worked at Yellow Transit Freight Lines for a couple of years before returning to Carmen where she worked at 1st National Bank. On May 11, 1944, she was united in marriage to Charley Kassik at the Behm family farm. They farmed and ranched for over 50 years in Carmen before making their home in Alva in 1984.

She was a member of the Christ's Bible Church in Dacoma, Oklahoma, before joining the First Baptist Church in Alva where she was a member of the Gleaner Sunday School Class. Lois was a member of the Rebekah Lodge in Carmen, the Sigma Kappa of Alpha Iota Business Sorority of Oklahoma City, and the Red Bird Home Demonstration Club of Dacoma.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charley; two sisters, Florence Nickel and Audrey Presnall; and a nephew-in-law, Neal Hoffman.

Lois is survived by her nieces and nephews, Mary Inez Hoffman of Carmen, Nancy Presnall of Enid, Brian Hoffman of Cherokee, Roger and Pauline Kassik of Dacoma, Sharon and Mike Higby of Turpin, and Vickie Deaton of Topeka, Kansas; other relatives and friends.

Memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home to the First Baptist Church of Alva.
