Carol Lee Parr
May 16, 1932 - March 27, 2024
Carol Lee Parr (Sherman) was born to parents, Grant and Pearl Sherman on May 16, 1932 in Amorita. She passed peacefully, surrounded by loved ones on March 27, 2024 at the Kiowa District Manor in Kiowa, Kansas.
Carol grew up in Amorita, Oklahoma where she was one of six children. She had three sisters and two brothers, whom she had a very close relationship with. From a young age she was taught to work hard and take care of others, two things she's continued through her lifetime.
She attended Amorita schools her whole life and graduated from high school in 1950. Shortly after graduation, she married Jack Parr on May 19, 1950. They enjoyed their honeymoon by taking a drive to Talemina instead of her senior trip. They began their life on the farm in Amorita but moved to Cherokee after the birth of their first born, Steven, in 1951. They added another son, David, in 1953; and a daughter, Cheryl, in 1962. Carol dedicated her whole adult life to her family, it came naturally to her.
She built her home around making everyone feel loved. She expressed love through cooking and baking, and she was great at both. She had the ability to make every occasion worth celebrating. Saturdays meant strawberry pancakes, Valentine's Day meant homemade cookie cakes and Halloween meant her famous homemade popcorn balls. So many events in life were made even more special through meals made in her kitchen. Beyond her kitchen table, she devoted a great amount of time providing meals for Harvest, meals for mourning families, hosting wedding and baby showers and baking goods for fundraising. She never turned down the opportunity to support her family, her community or her church.
She was a dedicated member of First Baptist Church of Cherokee for over 70+ years. She enjoyed teaching Sunday School class to many different groups; youth group, women, young married couples, and the list goes on. It took a great amount of preparation, but she loved serving others and growing their relationship with the Lord, simultaneously strengthening hers along the way. There is no doubt she has fostered generations of Christians and carried the same responsibility in her home. She was the foundation of faith for her husband, children and grandchildren. She prayed for and with her family through every circumstance and was trusting of the Lord's provision. Her lifetime as a Christian is a gift to all who knew her and provides comfort to know exactly where her eternal life will be spent. With Jack.
Carol was married to the love of her life, Jack, for over 70 years. They loved to travel and exploring the world together. They took many family trips and created memories that will last a lifetime. They participated in a couple's bowling league for many years. They enjoyed watching all sports, but especially Thunder basketball, as she had played many years growing up, she was a state champion after all. Carol loved doing anything as long as she was with Jack. There weren't many places you would find one without the other. She was his right hand for just about everything whether it was bookkeeping at the shop, joining him to run parts, she was always there, full of love and support. Her dedication as a wife, mother and grandmother is what she will be remembered for.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Grant and Pearl Sherman; sister, Yvonne Miller and brother, Don Sherman. She is especially welcomed to eternal life by her son, Steven Parr and husband, Jack Parr.
She is survived by her son, David and wife, Nancy of Cherokee; daughter, Cheryl and husband, George of Cherokee; sisters, Faye Kraft of Gridley, Kansas and Myrna Singree of Wichita, Kansas and brother Merlyn Sherman of Cushing, Oklahoma; Continuing her legacy through generations are grandsons, Adam Parr and wife, Victoria of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Ryan Parr of Fort Collins, Colorado, Phil Parr and wife, Rose of Keller, Texas, Jeff Parr and wife, Mirella of Mount Pleasant, Texas and Collin and wife, Calli of Tulsa, Oklahoma and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral service for Carol will be Monday, April 1, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Cherokee with burial to follow at Byron-Amorita Cemetery. Viewing will be Saturday, March 30, 2024 from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. with family present from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Arrangements are by Lanman Funeral Home, Inc. of Cherokee www.lanmanmemorials.com Facebook: Lanman Funeral Home Inc.
