Alva – Funeral services for Therman D. Avants, 66, who died Wednesday morning in an Alva hospital, will be at 2 PM Friday in the Wharton Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Gary Warman, pastor of the Alva First Christian Church, officiating.
Burial will be in the Byron – Amorita Cemetery.
His family has suggested that those who wish make contributions in his memory to the Cancer Fund, either direct or through Wharton's. Avants died on the day of his mother's funeral.
He was born June 23, 1915, at Bokoshe and graduated from Yale high school with the class of 1934.
Avants was a veteran of World War II, serving with the United States Army in the European Theater.
He and Wanda Smith were married September 27, 1941, at Ponca City. After the war was over, Avants worked as a salesman for office supplies and equipment. In 1950, they moved to Wichita, Kansas, where he worked in an aircraft factory until his retirement from Boeing in 1978.
Avants was a member of the University Christian Church in Wichita. He was preceded in death by his father, April 28, 1966, and his mother on April 25.
Survivors are his wife Wanda of the home; two daughters, Julia (Mrs. Bob) Jacobson of Alva and Sally (Mrs. Lee) Frye, Aurora, Colorado; two sons, Daniel, Wichita and Randall D. Castle Springs, Colorado; 13 grandchildren.
