Mary K. Alexander was born July 25, 1933, and passed away Saturday, Aug. 6, 2011, after a four-year battle with cancer.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 10, 2011, at Driftwood Christian Church with Pastor William Beard officiating. Interment will be in Byron & Amorita Cemetery under the direction of Goodwin Funeral Home of Cherokee. Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. today at the funeral home with the family present from 6-7:30 p.m. The casket will remain closed after the funeral service.
Mary graduated from Amorita High School in 1951.
She married William Alexander Jr. Dec. 22, 1951.
She worked at Burlington schools for 28 years as a cook and doing custodial work, retiring in 2002.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Marvin Stewart and Helen Giggy Stewart; husband, William Alexander Jr.; son, Michael Alexander; brother and sister-in-law, Jimmy and Ruth Stewart.
She is survived by two sons, Gary Alexander and wife Rhonda of Cimarron, Kan., and Phillip Alexander and wife Lisabet of Omaha, Neb.; one daughter, Helen Alexander, who was currently residing in Amorita taking care of her mother: five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Donna Stewart Morrow and husband Charles of Alva and Shirley Stewart Schmidt of Raleigh, N.C.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Memorials may be made to Byron & Amorita Cemetery Fund, Amorita Community Center or Kids Against Hunger Northwest Oklahoma through Goodwin Funeral Home.
