Jessie was born on the family farm near Longdale, Oklahoma on September 15, 1928 to Harry Harvey and Nancy Marie (Dickens) Martin and passed away June 19, 2016 at Okeene Hospital in Okeene, Oklahoma.
She began her school years in the little country school of Tintop and then went on to Longdale School. Jessie married Ivan Dow on September 5, 1948. They raised three boys; Don, Ronnie and Earl. Jessie was a hard worker all of life. She helped to care for her twin siblings Paul and Pauline when they were young. She was like most farm women of her day, raising a big garden to feed her family and canned for the winter months. Jessie was a wonderful cook and baker. Even with a diagnosis of being legally blind, sewing was probably her greatest gift. She made all of her kids’ clothes and even made suits for Ivan. She loved to make quilts as well until her eyesight failed her completely. Jessie and Ivan liked to travel to the mountains of Colorado with the family and campout. She’d bake dozens and dozens of cookies to take along. Her sister Pauline and Ray Schoonmaker traveled with them and eventually brought along the grandkids. Jessie enjoyed getting together with all the neighbors at the Dane Schoolhouse for the Dane Merry Makers. Box Suppers, music and lots of visiting and catching up was always a fun time for her. She loved her family and grandchildren very much and will be missed by all who knew her.
Jessie is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Ivan, two grandchildren and one brother.
She is survived by her children; Don and wife Sandy Dow of Fairview, Ok, Ronnie Dow and Earl and wife Beth all of Longdale, Ok, one brother, Paul Martin and wife Betty of Chester, OK and one sister, Pauline Schoonmaker and husband Ray also of Longdale, sister-in-law Laveta Martin of Longdale, OK nine grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Memorials can be made to the Bethel Cemetery with the funeral home acting as custodian of the funds.
