Auburn Cemetery


Carroll M. White, 76, died Sunday at the Cherokee Manor Nursing Home. The funeral was at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the First Christian Church in Cherokee with the Rev. Gene Spillman officiating. Burial was at Auburn Cemetery near Cherokee, directed by Fisher Funeral Home.

He was born June 18, 1910, in Lambert to Robert F. and Elsie E. Root White and attended schools there. After graduating from Lambert High School, he attended Northwestern Oklahoma State University and Phillips University. On Sept. 13, 1930, he married Orvella Baltz in Alva. He taught school for several years, then worked for Vance Air Force before going to Alfalfa County Electric in Cherokee where he was office manager of bookkeeping for 22 years, retiring in 1972. He also was a member of the First Christian Church and the Lions Club.

Survivors include his wife, Orvella; two sons, Fred L., Colorado Springs, Colo, and Larry R., Helena; a daughter, Carole Cousins, Wichita, Kan; three brothers, Floyd L., New Plymouth, Idaho, Harlan, Cherokee, and Leon, Tulsa; three sisters, Vivian Marteney, Emett, Idaho, Temple Tucker and Twyla Provost, both of Cherokee; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Cherokee Manor Nursing Home or to the First Christian Church organ fund.
