Donald D. Hale passed away in Houston, Texas unexpectedly on Aug. 31, 2012, due to complications from leukemia a week from his 78th birthday Sept. 9.
He proudly served his country in the Navy (Korean conflict). He obtained a degree in Electrical Engineering from Oklahoma State University, and worked for Southwestern Bell for 30 years. Throughout his life, he always helped those who were less fortunate. In his car on a small card he had written these words: “What I give, I’ll have forever. What I keep, I’ll lose. For it is in giving that we receive. And now abideth in me, faith, hope, and charity. These three; but the greatest of these is charity.”
It was his wish to donate his body to UT Health Science Center. His cremated remains will be returned home to Auburn Cemetery in Cherokee sometime within the next two years. An Inurnment service will follow.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Maxine Hale (Simmons); parents, Elinor and Everett Hale; brother, Curtis Hale; and son-in-law, Jeff Ahrens.
He is survived by his daughter, Brenda Ross and husband, Harold; son, Alan Hale; daughter, Donna Ahrens; grandchildren, Allison Schuetz and husband, Michael, Wyatt and Amber Ahrens; great-grandchildren, Kylie and Gracen Schuetz; sisters, Rickie Stone and husband, Larry; Dee Heffernan and husband, John; and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial donation can be made in Don’s name to www.lls.org/ways to help (leukemia), or Be the Match.org. (bone marrow)
