The funeral for Wallace "Wally" Richard Anderson, 87, of Enid, will be 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 18, 2008, at Anderson-Burris Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Susan Southall will officiate. Burial will be at Auburn Cemetery, west of Cherokee. Family visitation will be 5:30 - 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

He was born Feb. 16, 1921, in Greenleaf, Kan., to Lawrence and Caroline Adams Anderson and died Monday, Sept. 15, 2008, in Enid.

He attended Greenleaf schools and graduated from Kansas State with a Bachelor of Engineering degree. He then served in the Army Air Corp 370 Fighter Group, 401 Fighter Squadron, 9th Air Force and flew more than 50 missions during his military career. He flew both the P-38 and the P-51. As a fighter pilot, he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross along with several other air medals. He flew air cover during Battle of the Bulge.

He married Mary V. Belcher Jenlink Aug. 17, 1956, in Cherokee. Following the war, he worked for Alfalfa County Rural Electric and later OG&E, as an electrical engineer until he retired. He was a member of North Enid Lions Club, American Legion and First United Methodist Church, where he sang in the choir.

Surviving are his wife, Mary, of the home; one son, Richard Scott Anderson of Enid; one brother, Eugene Anderson of Riverside, Calif.; one sister, Audrey Scott of Newton, Kan.; and two grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one son, one brother and a grandson.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Auburn Cemetery.
