The funeral for Henry “Hank” Dick Goeken, 88, of Cherokee, will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church in Cherokee. The Rev. Tom Cooksey will officiate. Burial will be in Apostolic Cemetery near Burlington. Arrangements are by Lanman Funeral Home Inc. of Cherokee. Visitation will be 10 a.m. until 7 p.m. Monday and 9 a.m. to noon Tuesday.
He was born May 7, 1918, west of Cherokee to Jacob and Elizabeth Reifschneider Goeken and died Friday, Dec. 29, 2006, in Cherokee.
He graduated from Ingersoll High School in 1936. He joined the Civil Conservation Corps (CCC) after high school. He was in the Army Air Corps from December 1941 until January 1946. He was a staff sergeant. He was in the Night Fighter Squadron No. 348, and received the Good Conduct Medal and Marksman Medal. He married Ada Belle Kisling Oct. 4, 1952, in Cherokee. He was a farmer. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Cherokee and American Legion Post No. 33.
Surviving are his wife Ada, of Cherokee; two sons, Mark Goeken of Arvada, Colo., and Gary Goeken of Cherokee; one sister, Helen Gerber of Cherokee; nine grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one sister and two brothers.
Memorials may be made through the funeral home to First Baptist Church or First Baptist Church Youth Group.
