Karen ReVae Garvie was born Oct. 5, 1940, in Cherokee, Okla. She departed this life on Thursday, March 26, 2015, in Alva, Okla., at the age of 74 years.

Karen was the oldest daughter of the union of Floyd and Matilda Allenbach Schupbach. She grew up on the farm in Burlington, Okla.

In 1962, after graduating from Northwestern Oklahoma State University, Charles Garvie and Karen were married at First Christian Church, Alva, Okla. The couple resided in Woodward and Alva, later relocating to the farm in Burlington.

Karen was a full-time wife, mother and grandmother, dedicating her life to her church, family and friends.

Karen’s love of music started at a young age in grade school and blossomed into a career of accompanying the school choir and playing for community events. She played the piano and keyboard at her home daily and instilled a love of music in her family.

She was a member of Driftwood Christian Church, where she taught Sunday school and played the piano and organ for many years. She also was a member of the Burlington FFA Mother’s Club and the Country Girls singing group.

Karen was a past employee of the Farm Service Agency and volunteered at the local voting poll in Burlington. She especially enjoyed gathering with her high school classmates at alumni reunions.

Karen loved spending time with her grandchildren and enjoyed being a part of their lives. She always had cake, cookies and ice cream in her kitchen, waiting for their visits to Grandma’s house.

Karen is survived by her husband, Charles, whom she was married to for 53 years; two children, Jana and Brian Lindley of Wamego, Kan., and Brent and Vanessa Garvie of Burlington, Okla.; grandchildren, Katelyn and Sarah Garvie and Trevor and Matiel Lindley. She also is survived by two sisters, Donna and Glen Piper of Kiowa, Kan., and Colleen and Cole Ward of Bethany, Okla.; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 30, 2015, at Driftwood Christian Church, Driftwood, Okla., with Max Boothby and Virgil Eubanks officiating. Burial will be at Apostolic Cemetery, southeast of Burlington, with arrangements by Lanman Funeral Home Inc. of Kiowa, Kan. Viewing will be 1-7 p.m. today, March 29, with the family present from 5-7.
