Apostolic Cemetery


Meade, Kansas – the funeral for Irene Marie Armbruster, 90, will be 11 AM Friday in Driftwood Christian Church, the Rev. Rodney Rieger will officiate. Burial will be in Apostolic Christian Cemetery in Burlington. Arrangements are by Fiddler – Orme Mortuary. She was born April 18, 1913, in Alfalfa County to Fred and Katie Zehr Schurter and died Monday, March 22, 2004, at Meade District Hospital.

She graduated from Driftwood high school. On November 1, 1933 she married Walter W. Armbruster at Alva. They farmed in the Burlington area for more than 60 years. She was a homemaker and was an active charter member of Driftwood Christian Church. She volunteered at Alfalfa County Hospital in Cherokee. After suffering a stroke in 1994, she moved to Lone Tree Compassionate Care Center in Meade.

Surviving are three daughters, Charlene R. Ackerman of Meade, Carolee A. Whiteacre of La Habra, California, and Cecelia I. Castle of Jet; one sister, Wilma Frohock of Blackwell; 11 grandchildren; and 28 great – grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband on July 18, 1996, one son, three brothers and two grandsons.
