Aline Star Cemetery


The funeral for Ida Whiteneck Prentice, 92, Enid, who died Saturday at the Methodist Nursing Home, will be at 1:30 p.m on Tuesday at the Enid Church of the Brethren, 1724 West Broadway. Ministers John Holderread and Charles Newton wil officiate. Burial will be in the Aline Star Cemetery under the direction of Brown Funeral Home, Enid.
She was born April 2, 1902 in Woods County to John and Cora Beard Whiteneck. She attended the rural Prairie Bell School, Dist. 76, of Woods County, and later served as president of the school board when her own children were students there. She also attended Englewood Grade School and Carmen High School. She attended the Academy of McPherson College in McPherson, Kansas.
On March 16, 1921, she was united in marriage to Loren C. Prentice near Waynoka. She and her husband were active in farming and ranching in the Aline-Waynoka area where she lived most of her life. He preceded her in death in 1984.
From childhood, she was a member of the Church of the Bretheren and served many years as Sunday School Teacher. She moved to Enid in 1989.
She is survived by her two children, Dr. Richard Prentice and Carol Steffen, both of Enid; one sister, Jennie Newton of Waynoka; four brothers, Dr. John Whiteneck of Beaverton, Oregon, Dr. Wilbur Whiteneck of Oklahoma City, Dr. Rhonald Whiteneck of Norman and Elden Whiteneck of Sarcoxie, MO.; five grandchildren, Cynthia Hendrickson, Dr. Brent Steffen, Dr. Prentice Steffen, Dr. Mark Steffen, and Burton Prentice, and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by six brothers and two sisters.
Contributions in her memory may be made to Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation with Brown Funeral Home serving as custodian of the funds.
Pallbearers were: Brent Steffen, Mark Steffen, Burton Prentice (grandsons) James Hendrickson, (grandson-in-law) Tim Warren and Buck Johnston.
