Gerald McNickle was born near Aline on July 20, 1918 to Chet and Gladys Cline McNickle. He was raised in the McWillie area and attended Englewood School through the eighth grade at which time he began his working career. At an early age, he assumed the responsibility of a working man. He managed the Coleman fruit farm, custom harvested with his father-in-law, Abby Bocock and piloted his own plane. His talents were numerous from building his own home to farming. He built the "Singing Fence" at the Pleasant Plains Church of the Brethren south of McWillie in memory of Archie and Anna Patrick.
On September 3, 1938 he married Doris Bocock and to that union three daughters and two sons were born. Doris preceded him in death on September 15, 1981. On July 30, 1982 he and Vera I. Cross were married and they made their home in Ringwood. After retiring from farming, he did wood crafting, he volunteered at the MARC Senior Citizens Center in Ringwood and was active with Oklahoma Farmers Union. He was an Elder in the Ringwood Presbyterian Church where he taught Sunday School until he could no longer do so because of his health.
