Memorial services for Betty Jeanne Hughes will be at 2 p.m., Saturday September 5, 2015, at the Aline United Methodist Church with Stan Griffin officiating. Interment will be in the Aline Star Cemetery, Aline, Oklahoma.
Betty Jeanne Hughes, daughter of the late Orval Clayton and Mildred Opaline (Dale) Hughes, was born March 13, 1932, in Aline, and passed away August 31, 2015, at Bossier City, Louisiana, at the age of 83.
Betty Jeanne graduated from Aline High School in 1950 and attended Oklahoma State University (Stillwater), majoring in art, in 1950-51. In June 1951, she was married to Owen Curtis Griffin in Aline. They made their homes in Wyandotte, Collinsville, and Stillwater. She married Edward Floyd Hamilton in May 1981. She later moved to Lake Kiowa, Texas, enjoyed dancing and fishing with friend Lee Roy Schmitz. She then moved to her daughter and son-in-law's home in Bossier City, Louisiana, in 2010.
She was a life-long Methodist, beginning as a member of and attending the Aline United Methodist Church while she lived in the area growing up. She loved to paint and sew. She worked as a secretary/bookkeeper at OSU for years and later owned an antique store, Rock Barn Relics in Stillwater. Betty Jeanne is survived by her three children, Steven (Lela) Griffin of West Des Moines, Iowa; Stanley (Candy) Griffin of Mustang, Oklahoma; and Jana (Allen) Ree of Bossier City, Louisiana; three brothers, Ben (Jean) Hughes, Dale (Donna) Hughes, and Don (Ruby) Hughes; eight grandchildren, Scott Williams, Samuel Griffin, Spencer Griffin, Alisha Barnes, Asher Griffin, Shelby Kifer, Jaden Kifer and Jordan Kifer; five great-grandchildren, other family and friends.
