The funeral for Lester Clifton Hager, 93, of Alva, will be 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 21, 2009, at Aline United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Aline Star Cemetery. Arrangements are by Lanman Funeral Home Inc., Cherokee. The casket will be open from 2-7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home with the family present from 5-7 p.m.
He was born July 17, 1916, in Major County and died Friday, Sept. 18, 2009, at Share Medical Center, Alva.
His family homesteaded land in what became the Oakdale community near Aline, where he grew up.
He married Mildred Julian June 10, 1942, in Riverside, Calif. She preceded in him in death.
He worked for Boeing Aircraft Co. in Wichita, Kan., during World War II, and in 1946, he became the owner of Hager Produce in Aline, which he operated for the next 10 years. In 1957, he again worked for Boeing Aircraft Co. in Wichita and Duo-Bed Corporation and Cessna Aircraft Co. for the next 25 years. He retired in 1981 and moved to Alva. He was a member of the Do Little Camping Club and North-western Antique Car Club. He also was a member of Aline United Methodist Church for the last 60 years and the Masons for more than 50 years. He is a past member of Oddfellows and Rebekahs. He served on the board of the Alva Senior Citizens. He had lived at Share Convalescent Home, Alva, for the past few years.
Surviving are two children, Gale Hale of Riverside, Calif., and Keith Hager of Kingman, Kan.; two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Aline United Methodist Church.
