ENID — Leta Joan (Coons) Baker, daughter of Ralph and Lottie (Connelly) Coons, was born April 8, 1934, southeast of Seiling in the Hucmac community. She departed this life Sunday, Nov. 13, 2011, in Oklahoma City, Okla. She was 77 years of age.
She attended Seiling School and graduated from Seiling High School with the class of 1951.
She furthered her education at Enid Business College, where she met Richard Baker. They were united in marriage Feb. 7, 1953, in Seiling and made their first home in Enid. In 1960, they moved to their farm near Aline, where they raised their family.
Joan was a member of First Christian Church in Aline, where she taught Sunday school. She was a wonderful cook, but her greatest joy was her family, especially her grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband, Richard Baker; daughter, Cindy Hurst and husband Terry of Cleo Springs; two sons, Kenneth Baker and wife Paula of Aline and Keith Baker and wife Jerri of Cleo Springs; seven grandchildren, Kyle (Melanye) Baker, Travis (Amy) Hurst, Melissa Baker and fiancé Jason Jenlink, Kory (Maggie) Baker, Chad (Allison) Hurst, Kala (Joel) Pina and Mindy (Michael) Quint; eight great-grandchildren; and a stepsister, Lavonna Budy of Alva. She also is survived by several nieces. nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Melvin and Eldon Coons; and one nephew, Lynn Coons.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 16, 2011, at First Christian Church, Aline, with Pastor Polly Young officiating. She will lie in state at the church from 9 a.m. until service time. Interment will follow in Aline Star Cemetery.
Memorials can be made to Aline Christian Church with Redinger Funeral Home, Box 236, Seiling, OK 73663, serving as custodian of the funds.

Funeral service for Richard S. Baker, 85, Aline, is 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 1, 2018, in the Aline Christian Church with the Rev. David Jones and Brian Meyer officiating .
Burial follows in Aline Star Cemetery, under the direction of Anderson-Burris Funeral Home, Enid.
Richard was born Monday, January 23, 1933, in Carmen, Oklahoma, to Ralph and Opal Strode Baker, and passed away Tuesday, August 28, 2018, at his home with his children by his side.
He graduated from Carmen High School and attended Enid Business College.
On February 7, 1953, Richard married Leta "Joan" Coons in Seiling. They made their home in the Carmen and Aline area, where they farmed and ranched.
Richard was a member of the Lions Club and was awarded the Honorary FFA Award.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Joan; three sisters, Elnor Daily, Evelyn Pennington, and Ramona Herren; two brothers, Leslie and Louis Baker.
He is survived by his three children and their spouses, Kenneth and Paula Baker, Cindy and Terry Hurst, Keith and Jerri Baker; one sister, Helen Koehn; seven grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
Memorials may be made to Aline Christian Church Youth Group or Waukomis Christian Church Youth Group, through Anderson-Burris Funeral Home.
