Mrs. Mattie Ayres, 83, pioneer citizen of Aline, died at 3:15 Tuesday following an illness of several months. Funeral services are set for Friday, March 4 at 2 PM in the Christian Church with the Rev. Lynn Cooper officiating. Burial will be in the Eastern Star Cemetery with the Wentworth Mortuary directing.
A native of Whitney Iowa, she moved when a small girl with her parents to Kansas, and moved to Oklahoma at the Opening of the Cherokee Strip, locating in the Aline community.
She was united in marriage to George M. Ayers July 28, 1895 and has continuously resided in the community. Upon retiring from the farm they moved to Aline in 1908.
Mrs. Ayers was a member of the Christian Church and of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was active in both as long as her health permitted.
Survivors are two daughters: Mrs. Mae Cell, Dacoma and Mrs. Bertha Shipler, Aline; one sister, Mrs. Maude Guess, Marion, Oregon; three brothers, James Wilt and Raymond Wilt, Marion, Oregon, and Fay Wilt of Larned, Kansas; and two granddaughters and five great – grandchildren.
