Fairview, OK. - Funeral service for Emery Everett Anthony, 94, was Monday at the Nazarene church in Cleo Springs, OK. with the Rev. Jim Berggraf officiating. Private burial was in Aline Star Cemetery, Aline, OK. directed by Lanman Funeral Home. He died March 3, 2005 at Fairview (OK.) Fellowship Home.
He was born Jan. 11, 1911, in Lambert, OK. to Spencer William and Mary Olive Allen Anthony. He left Oklahoma at age 16 and went to Kansas where he worked for a rancher and attended barber school. He worked as a barber in Wichita, KS. until 1972 with the exception of the time he served in the U.S. Navy. On Dec. 25, 1935, he married Edna Marie Sheldon. He enlisted in the navy in 1943 and served on the USS Robinson which was part of an eight-ship destroyer squadron. He was awarded the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with one Silver and one Bronze Star, the Philippine Presidential Unit Citation, the Philippine Liberation Ribbon, the World War II Victory Medal, the China Service Medal, the American Campaign Medal, the Navy Occupation SVC Medal, the Navy Honorable Discharge Button and the Honorable Service Lapel Button.
After retiring from barbering, he moved to rural Beaumont, KS., to raise bird dogs and horses. He rode and broke horses. He belonged to the Albert Pike Masonic Lodge where he was raised to 32nd Degree Mason. He belonged to the Kansas Skeet Club and won both state and national championships. He and his wife moved to Fairview, OK. in 1993. He attended Cleo Springs Nazarene Church.
He is survived by one brother, Ernest, of Cleo Springs, OK.; two sisters, Roena Lair and Mable Smith, both of Fairview, OK., and a special friend, Lillian Nickel.
He was preceded in death by his wife in 1997; six siblings, Opal Anthony, George Anthony, Floyd Anthony, Mary McHugh, Vernon Anthony and Grace Schurdall.
Memorials may be made to Fairview Fellowship home, Hospice Circle of Love or the church through the funeral home.
