Vol Calvin Woods was born December 12, 1929 in Westville Oklahoma and departed this walk of life June 10, 2012 at the age 82 years 5 months and 29 days.
He was preceded in death by his parents Lloyd Arthur Woods and Ella Mabel (Hargrove) Woods, and his sister Maxine Holt.
Vol graduated from Westville High School in 1947 and Oklahoma A&M (later know as OSU) in 1953. He served two years in the army, worked 3 years for the County Extension Service, 2 years as co-owner in Woods Grocery & Meat Market and later retired from the Oklahoma Department of Human Services in 1985. During all this time, as family tradition dictated, he raised and sold cattle.
Vol always loved working with leather and used it to supplement his income while attending Oklahoma A&M. 25 years ago he started making saddles, opened up the Woods Saddlery and soon recruited Debi, his daughter, to work with him in the saddleshop.
Vol is survived by his wife of 59 years Donna Jean (Braden), 2 children 5 grandchildren, 1 great granddaughter. Daughter - Debra Celeste Brown and her husband David Lee Brown, their children Travis Cal Brown and Trenton Lee Brown all of Westville; son - Vol David Woods and his Wife Tami Woods of Welling and their children, Tabatha Victoria Welker and her husband Dustin Welker and daughter Adali Grace Welker all of Claremore, Amanda Alexia Catterlin and her husband Ben Catterlin of Fayetteville Arkansas, and Vol Colton Woods of Welling. Also a host of family and friends who he loved dearly.
For those of us who loved Vol we are thankful to have had him in our lives and will miss him very much. Graveside services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 15, 2012, at the Westville City Cemetery under the direction of Hart Funeral Home of Westville.
