Edmond Victor “ Vic” Guthrie, Son of George B. and Josie (Sherfield) Guthrie, was born on February 24, 1918 in Boxley, Arkansas and departed this life on Sunday, August 9, 2009 in West Siloam Springs, Oklahoma at the age of 91 years, 5 months and 13 days.
Vic worked as a carpenter for most of his life. He worked in California for Timber Structures for several years putting up trusses for many schools and churches all over the state. He was a carpenter and maintenance man for Hunts Cannery in Hayward, California for eleven years. He was employed by Manhattan Construction Company in the building of the Dallas Civic Center where he was severely injured in a fall from the building in 1972. Vic was saved and baptized in 1976 and became a member of the Pentecostal Holiness Church in Westville. He considered all of the people of the church as part of his family. All the youngsters of the church will remember him because he always had a stick of gum for each and every one of them.
Vic was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers: Carl, Raymond and Ralph, two sisters: Stella Bird and Ella Mae Guthrie, his son: Wendell Eugene Guthrie and grandson: Ricky Gene Guthrie.
Vic is survived by his wife of 69 years: Dona Annabelle (Smith) Guthrie of the home, his son: Doyle Guthrie and wife Glenita of Westville, OK, his twin brother: Homer Guthrie of Westville, his brother: Dean Guthrie and wife Corine of Westville, his sisters: Myrtle Kindle and husband Walter of Westville, Frankie Williams and husband Forrest of Westville, 7 grandchildren: Belinda Moran, Sherry Guthrie, Angela Bird, Vicki Reece, Doyle Glenn Guthrie and Jim Guthrie, 13 great grandchildren, 4 great great grandchildren, many other relatives and friends.
Funeral Services were held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 12, 2009 in the Roberts Chapel with Bro. Navil Vaughn and Bro. Audie Vaughn officiating. Interment followed at Westville City Cemetery under the direction of Roberts Funeral Home.
