Thomas Fishinghawk was born May 21, 1932, in Stilwell, Oklahoma, the son of Dawes Fishinghawk and Sallie Scott Hogshooter. On October 9, 2009, he passed from this life at Stilwell Memorial Hospital at the age of 77 years, 4 months and 18 days.
He was preceded in death by his father, Dawes Fishinghawk, his mother, Sallie Scott Hogshooter, two brothers, Jesse Fishinghawk and Lester Bird, two sisters, Helen and Lillie Bird, one infant brother and one infant sister.
He is survived by two brothers, Houston Byrd and Robert Hogshooter and three sisters, Sarah Bird Hirst, Rebecca Bird Patton and Susie Thompson, all of Stilwell, two aunts, Polly Scraper and Peggy Williamson and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Thomas loved being outdoors and enjoyed fishing, hunting, catching crawdads, gathering mushrooms, grapes, wild onions, hickory and chinquapin nuts. He was an avid sports fan and watched all sports especially the OU Sooners. He thought of others before himself. He worked all his adult life to help his mother provide for the younger children. As time progressed he helped babysit his nieces and nephews. Thomas had a lot of patience. He taught his family how to hunt safely and responsibly. He taught them what plants to gather and when to gather them and to value education by the example he set.
He graduated from Chilocco Indian School and then received his refrigeration certification from a school in Kansas City. Most importantly he set the example to honor God, His Word and His people.
