Georgia Ruth (Cochran) Worley
February 22, 1918 - February 11, 2007
Georgia Ruth (Cochran) Worley passed from this life and entered Heaven on Sunday February 11, 2007 at Memorial Hospital in Stilwell at the age of 88 years, 11 months and 11 days.
She was born February 22, 1918 to William C. Cochran and Edith Geneva (Wiggins) Cochran in Arkoma, OK.
She spent her entire life in Oklahoma, moving to Adair County in 1920.
She attended Union Grade (Cave Springs) School graduation in 1936.
Georgia married Hurshel L. Worley August 2, 1938 in Tahlequah, OK and to this union four children were welcomed: Carolyn, Velma Jean, Darrell and Rhonda.
Hurshel preceded her in death in 1971.
Ruth began her teaching career at Salem School, riding a horse from Lyons over Beaver Gap each day.
She also taught at Kentucky School, boarding with a local family returning home on weekends, and she taught at North Greasy all the while attending classes on Saturday and taking correspondence courses to get her teaching degree.
She graduated Northeastern State University in 1955.
Ruth began her 28 years of teaching at Cave Springs in 1955 retiring from there in 1983.
She was dedicated to the power of education and the importance of teaching children. After retirement she fondly remember her years as a teacher and educator.
She was a loving and caring person who enjoyed life.
Her former students always enjoyed their renunion, and her interest in their future and they would give her praise for their education.
She will be greatly missed by those who knew her. She was loved by all.
Ruth was chosen as Adair County Teacher of the Year in 1981-1982.
She was a member of Alpha Delta Kappa, an international Honorary Society for Women Teachers, Adair County retired Teachers Association, Adair County Home Extension Club.
She was a faithful member of South Greasy chuch for many years.
She is survived by a loving family that includes 3 daughters: Carolyn R. Denny and husband Larry Udell, Velma Jean Eads and husband Emmett (Red), Rhonda Pritchett and husband Hastings all of Bunch, OK, 1 son: Darrell Worley and wife Tammy of Cassville, MO: 12 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren, 2 sisters: Charlotte and Husband Haskell C. Ford of Fullerton, CA., and Virginia Ford, of Stilwell OK.
Many other relatives and friends also survive her.
Funeral services were held Friday, February 16, 2007 in the Roberts/Reed-Culver Funeral Chapel with Bro. James Essary and Bro. Ronnie Ford officiating.
Interment followed in the Stilwell City Cemetery under the direction of Roberts/Reed-Culver Funeral Home.
