JR "Bill" Thomas was born February 5, 1928 in Stilwell, Oklahoma to Delmer Thomas and Anna Mae (Vanderheiden) Thomas and departed this life January 29, 2007 at the age of 78 years, 11 months, and 23 days.
Bill was a World War II veteran where he served his country proudly in the United States Navy. He retired from the City of Stilwell Utility Department after 34 dedicated years and was instrumental in the infrastructure mapping of the water and sewer lines.
Whether hunting, fishing, or in the garden, Bill was always at home in the outdoors. His uncanny ability to strike up a conversation with total strangers resulted in many lifelong friends.
Most of all, Bill had a heart after God which overflowed in compassion and concern for all around him. It was not uncommon to see him visiting nursing homes, sharing Christ with any who would listen, praying for the sick, or encouraging others in their walk with God.
On March 27, 1948, Bill married Betty Campbell. They spent 58 happy years together and were blessed with five children.
Bill's parents, Delmer and Anna Mae Thomas and his son, Rocky Dale Thomas preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Thomas; four children, DeLethia Ann Thomas, of Stilwell, Ronald Lee Thomas and wife Doris, of Stilwell, Debra June Kochie and husband, Andy, of Arlington, TX, Elizabeth Jean Prince and husband, David, of Watauga, TX; one daughter-in-law, Kathy Thomas, of Stilwell. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, 2 sisters, 2 brothers and a host of other friends and relatives.
