Betty Jean Carter was born July 19, 1925, in Thermopolis, Wyoming to James S. Carter and Beulah M. (Alberty) Carter.
She was married to Sherman L. Sanders February 23, 1946 in Westville, Oklahoma upon his return from Army duty in Germany. To this union was born a son, James (Jim) William on July 18, 1949.She was preceded in death by her mother, father, husband and son.
Those surviving her are two grandsons, Mike Sanders and wife Susan of Westville and Mark Sanders of Stilwell. She is also survived by two great-granddughters, Brittany Sanders of Stilwell and Ashley Fain of Kansas, Okalhoma; four great-grandsons Brent and Tyler Sanders of Westville and Bryce and Cooper Jo Sanders of Stilwell. Two step great-granddaughters Brianna Walker of Van Buren, Arkansas and Taylor Wilson of Westville, Oklahoma; one step great-great-grandson Easton Walker and one great-great-granddaughte, Maverick Fain. She was also looking forward to the birth of her soon to be great-great-grandson Mason Walker and great-great-granddaughter Bentlee Fain; cousin Alberta Walden of Albuquerque, New Mexico who was more like a sister than a cousin; daughter-in-law, Valerie Sanders Bennett of Stilwell and sister-in-law, Allene Sharp of Tahlequah, Oklahoma.
She worked for Kelly's Department Store from 1966 until Sharpe's Department Store bought Kelley's, then she worked until it's closing in June of 2004. While there she made many good friends, the dearest being Ann Cain, Rita Wolfe, Vi Presley and her great bosses David and Cathy Harwell.
Betty was always known to her family as "Granny Betty" and she will be missed beyond measure.Graveside Service was held 11:00 AM, Friday, November 19, 2021 at the Stilwell City Cemetery under the direction of Roberts-Reed-Culver Funeral Home, Stilwell, OK.
