Memorial services for Rufus Ross, a lifetime resident
of Adair County, were held
May 14, 1962 at's Roberts Funeral Home. Brother Joe Hazlitt of the
First Methodist officiated with burial in Stilwell Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Glenn Harrison, Billie Mack Uhner, Joe Lynn
Carson, Colbert Starr, Bud Eads, and Alvin Uhnerr.
Honorary pallbearers were Oscar Guthrie, George Peden, Virgil
Briggs, Claude Rhoades, John Briggs, George Starr, Al Briggs, Joe
Starr, Raye Blakemore, Herbert Williams, Jess Morton, Floyd Starr
and Jack Chaffin.
Survivors include his wife Ethel of the home; one sister, Mrs. Fred
Eads of Stilwell; two sons, Mack of Stilwell, and Talmadge of Eagle,
Colorado; six daughters, Mrs. J. G. Vandegrift of Ft. Smith,
Arkansas, Mrs. J. E. Ellis of Tulsa, Mrs. L. K. Weeks of Pomona,
California, Mrs. L. E. McCutcheon of Denver, Colorado, Mrs. Myrl
Worsham and Mrs. Raymond Harrison of Muskogee; eight grandchildren;
10 great – grandchildren and one great – great – grandchild.
