Roxie Barker Robbins
June 16, 1918-May 30, 2008
Roxie Barker Robbins was born June 16, 1918, to Maude Bigby Barker and Bill Barker.
She passed from this life at home on Friday, May 30, 2008.
She was born and raised in the Chalk Bluff area in Stilwell and she graduated Stilwell High School in 1936.
She was a very talented member of the Lady Indians basketball team. She later attended Hershey Business School in McAlester, Oklahoma.
After graduation, she moved to California, where she worked for a time as an insurance underwriter and later worked at the Los Angeles Wester Air Force in the personnel department.
She was married to Glenn Barry Robbins on August 24, 1942, in Lake Charles, Louisiana. While Glenn was stationed in Victoria, TX, she worked at Foster Field in the Records Department. Locally, she worked as the local board clerk for the Selective Service System from 1955 until her retirement in 1975.
Roxie was a lifetime member of the First United Methodist Church of Stilwell. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and served as Worthy Matron. She was an excellent cook and was strongly urged by her grandchildren to start a cafe they wanted her to name, "Granny's", advice she never heeded. She had a servant's heart and was deeply loved by many. She loved to share a pot of stew or beans with anyone she felt was in need. She was a friend to all; everyone she met was significant to her.
She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Katherine Baker Caldwell, of Stilwell.
She is survived by her husband, Glenn Robbins, of the home and her children; Dr. G. Barry Robbins, Jr., of Kirksville, MO, Linda Kay Langley and husband Bill of Stilwell and Dr. Rick L. Robbins and wife Karen of Sallisaw, OK., one brother; Joe Wheeler Barker and wife Mecy of Durant, OK., and sister; Betty Jarrett and her husband Pat also of Durant, OK.
She also leaves behind grandchildren; Danielle Reader and husband Brad of Kimball, NE., Glenn Barry Robbins, III (Trey) and his wife Jennifer of Edmond, OK, Megan Robinson and husband Sean of Edmond, OK., Kerry Ketcher and husband Jerry of McKinney, Texas, Will Langley and wife Amber of Miami, OK., Stephanie Qualls and husband Bobby of Jenks, OK., Dr. Hal Robbins and wife Ashley of Jenks, OK., and 11 great grandchildren.
Services were held 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 3, 2008, at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Barry Hayes officiating.
Interment followed at Stilwell City Cemetery under the direction of Hart Funeral Home.
