George Philpott, son of Emert Clinton and Mary Elizabeth (Clay) Philpott, was born on September 26, 1940 in Barber, Oklahoma and passed from this life on Tuesday, October 11, 2016 in Stilwell, Oklahoma at the age of 76 years.
George was a man of many talents and many stories, many, many stories! Like many Oklahoma men he chased work across the country in his younger years and even found himself in Alaska for a time. George was most well known as a trucker. Under the handle of “Lonesome George” he traversed the USA for Elway, Stilwell Foods, and finally retiring from Wal-Mart when his wife Jeanie’s health began to decline. George and Jeanie owned and operated Philpott Grocery, as well as raising cattle and operating chicken houses with both Simmons and Hudson Farms. Keeping the hay baled always seemed like a never ending task, but he really did enjoy it.
George was preceded in death by his parents, Emert and Mary Philpott, wife Emma Jean aka Jeanie, son, George Philpott, Jr., siblings, Juanita Johnson, Gene Philpott, Mack Philpott, Sue Buckner, Coweta Fixin, Marie Davenport and an infant sister.
He is survived by a loving family that includes his children, Lisa Brown and husband Jeff, Michelle Cook and husband Ed, Phillip Philpott, all of Stilwell, 11 grandchildren, Ashley Craighead and husband Jesse, Lauren Brown, Haley Brown, Jessica Wilson, Bethany Carter and husband Adam, Nathan Cook, Heather Quick and husband Joe, Chance Philpott and wife Kaitlyn, Zachary Philpott, Sydni Philpott, Colby Philpott, great grandchildren, Shelby, Layne, Aiden, Brayton, Justin, Landon, Meckenah, Zayne, Halle, Ava, and Emma, two great-grands on the way and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Friday, October 14, 2016 at Roberts/Reed- Culver Chapel, Stilwell, Oklahoma with Mike Stanley, Jeff Brown ~ Eulogy, Stephanie McChesney officiating.
Interment followed at Stilwell City Cemetery, Stilwell, OK.
