Johnny Frederick Marlin was born on December 18, 1946 at his aunt’s home in Nowata, OK to Charles “Shorty” and Dora Mae (Thornbrugh) Marlin. He was raised in Lenapah, OK with 4 brothers and 7 sisters. After high school he served in the Army for two years and was stationed in Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri.
Johnny loved playing music and singing. He taught himself to play a guitar when he took a guitar with three strings out of his uncle’s trashcan, he was 5 years old. His talent didn’t stop there, he could play any instrument he picked up. He enjoyed playing music with his friends and often played at home to pass the time.
He was an avid Oklahoma Sooners fan, even though he would get mad if they missed a play or didn’t win by at least 50 points
One of Johnny’s greatest pleasures came from his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He absolutely loved for them to visit.
Johnny met the love of his life in 1973 and moved to Stilwell to be with her. Together they raised five children. He was a jack of all trades and worked several different jobs. Over the years he was a plumber, a parts salesman, a delivery driver, and his last job was driving for KATS. He never met a stranger and enjoyed working with the public.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his life partner Susan C. Young, sons Loy Glen Marlin and Jimmy Wayne Marlin, brothers Robert Alan Marlin and Charles Marlin Jr, sisters June Tesh, Frances Drake, and Charlene Standeford.
Johnny is survived by a loving family which includes his and Susan’s five children: Kristy Young of Stilwell, Frankie Hargis of Stilwell, Steven Hargis and wife Shamekah of Westville, Michael Hargis and wife Cary of Stilwell, Julia Lynn Carlton and husband Mark of Dallas, TX. Their grandchildren: Travis Thomas and wife Maranda, Tyler Thomas and wife Madison, Courtney Hargis, Adam Carlton, Zachary Carlton, Colter Keehler, Reagan Hargis, and Rider Keehler. Their great grandchildren: Brycee Thomas, Braxton Thomas, Evan Thomas, Chandler Thomas and Ella Hill. His brothers Tommy Marlin (and wife Jackie) and Billy Jack Marlin, as well as sisters; Ellen Diamond (and husband Jerry), Georgia Dickerson (and husband David), Edith Davenport, and Bonnie Marlin. as well as a host of other relatives and dear friends.
Johnny will forever be remembered for the music he shared with those around him.
Graveside services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 3, 2020 at Stilwell City Cemetery with Bro. Max Ford officiating. Burial is under the care and direction of Hart Funeral Home.
