Joy Jo (Alford) Lindsey was born in Cleveland, Oklahoma on December 29, 1936 to George Leslie and Mary (Best) Alford. She died in Stilwell on September 14, 2013.
She is survived by her children: James Kenneth and Katy Lindsey of Yukon, Oklahoma, Janna and Clarence Preston of Oklahoma City and Karole and Mike Romero of West Pueblo, Colorado. She is also survived by her granddaughter: Lindsey Preston, two step granddaughters: Tiffany Montgomery and her son Christian and Stephanie Romero, her brother and sister: Georgia Ramirez of Maracaibo, Venezuela and George Alford of McKinney, Texas and her brother-in-law: Don Lindsey of Red Oak, Texas and sister-in-law: Sarah Kennett of Yukon, Oklahoma.
She was predeceased by her husband: James Robert Lindsey, son: Brian Scott Lindsey, her parents and her sister: Naomi Linson and her twin sister: Jean Alford.
Joy was a long-time Stilwell Elementary educator and instilled strong educational foundations in her first graders, fostered a love of reading in her library students and worked to instill confidence and creativity in her art students. She was active in the Alpha Delta Kappa, Adair County Retired Teachers, Stilwell Public Schools Foundation Board, Stoney Point Extension Homemakers and was a member of the Stilwell United Methodist Church. She was also an avid seamstress and quilter and was a part of the “Tuesday Sewing Bunch.”
Memorial donations may be made in her honor to the Stilwell Public Schools Foundation, PO Box 185, Stilwell, Ok. 74960
Funeral services were held at 2 pm on Thursday, September 19, 2013 at the First United Methodist Church, Stilwell, OK with Rev. Rose Leroy officiating. Interment followed at Stilwell City Cemetery under the direction of Roberts/Reed-Culver Funeral Home.
