Vera Mae Jones daughter of Isaac and Elizabeth (Spanaird) Jones was born September 27, 1940 in Tahlequah, Oklahoma and departed this life on May 9, 2012 in Stilwell, Oklahoma at the age of 71 years, 7 months and 12 days.
Vera was a graduate of Cave Springs High school, after graduation she moved to Dallas, Texas to attend Nursing school, she had the opportunity to work at Baylor Hospital while she was in school. When she finished school she returned home, and worked at the Stilwell Nursing Home for many years, she then went to work for CNI where she retired from, so that she could take care of her parents, she also did some babysitting, she would tell you “She raised about 10 kids” that included David and Georgia and their two children Michael and Millette, all of Jennie and Jodie’s children, then Georgia and Pete’s girls Patti and Meleah. She also had her hobbies which were working on puzzles such as fill in, Sudoku word search and cryptograms, but her favorite was tetrus on game boy that she had gotten for Christmas, which she played constantly for about two years.
Vera attended Sequoyah Baptist Church where she accepted Christ as her savior and baptized, she was church secretary at one time, she moved her membership to Salem Baptist Church, a church she loved, but didn’t attend like she wanted due to her health, but she praised the lord and read her bible at home and would talk about the lord.
Vera was preceded in death by her parents; one nephew; Billy Wayne Sawney and her only true love Andrew Bark.
She is survived by a very loving family that includes her only child- daughter; Carolyn Jones Bark, 1 sister; Jennie Kester and husband Kenny and her precious nieces and nephews and their children Jodie and Bobby and daughters Leslie, Erin, and Brynnley Kester, Sara and her two children Chaylon and Saydee Putnam; Ben and his son Landon Isaac Kester, 2 special cousins that she grew up with and were like sisters to her Sarah Jane Rich and Sharon Kay Whitley, and also David Dick of Tahlequah that she would say “He was a son that she never had”, the nurses at Stilwell Memorial Hospital, especially Dr. Dulowski. A host of other relatives and many friends also survive her.
Graveside services were held at 2 pm on Monday, May 14, 2012 at Stilwell City Cemetery with Bro. Tom Cochran officiating. Interment followed under the direction of Roberts/Reed-Culver Funeral Home.
