Betty June (Johnson) Jarrett, 95, passed away at 2:33 AM ET on Sunday, November 4, 2018 in Indianapolis, IN., surrounded by loving family after a brief illness. Born August 24, 1923, in Brea, CA, she split time between Brea and Stilwell, OK, and later lived in McAlester, OK., where she graduated from high school.
Betty earned a Registered Nurse degree from Oklahoma General Hospital in 1945, where she was military student nurse during WW II.
Married in 1947 to Robert P. (Pat) Jarrett of Temple, Oklahoma, the couple had three children: Alexis, Bob and Les.
The family moved about every three years when Pat was the assistant or plant manager of Universal Atlas Cement Co with stops along the way in Independence, KS, (twice); Fairborn, OH; Duluth, MN; Hannibal, MO; Hudson, NY; and St John, Martinsville, and Indianapolis, IN. The couple also lived in Barbados for a year and traveled to numerous places around the globe. They retired in Durant, OK, where they had many friends and relatives.
Betty was a Registered Nurse who worked and supervised various shifts at Independence (KS) Mercy Hospital. She also taught nursing and public health courses at Independence (KS) Community College.
Betty was involved in numerous civic organizations and charities, and was a member of the PEO sisterhood (Durant, Ok, Chapter DJ) as well as the Seventh-Day Adventist church.
Betty was preceded in death by her father Leslie Johnson, mother Thelma Barker, stepfather Bill Barker, son Bob Jarrett, brother Vance Johnson, and sisters Roxie Robbins and Kathryn Baker Caldwell, and brothers-in-law Glenn Robbins, George Baker, and Ed Caldwell.
Survivors include husband Pat of Indianapolis, IN; daughter Alexis Jarrett and husband Victor O’Yek of Schererville, IN; and, son Les and wife Kathy of Indianapolis, IN.; daughter-in law Margaret Watkins of Hatley, MS, and brother Joe (Mecy) Barker, Durant, OK., as well as many nieces and nephews.
Grandchildren include Michael and Brian Jarrett, San Francisco, CA; Sarah Jarrett, Denver, CO; Jessica Watkins, Memphis, TN; and Hiliary (Kristan) Godbeer, Phoenix, AZ; Linda Morris, Indianapolis, IN; and Nic Jarrett of Indianapolis, IN as well as great grandchildren, Rachael and Jeremy Horvat, Phoenix, AZ.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) which provides disaster relief as well as helping people worldwide and was one of Betty’s favorite charities.
Funeral services were held, November 14, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. in the Roberts/Reed-Culver Chapel with Pastor Charles Wayne Crozier officiating.
Interment followed in the Stilwell City Cemetery under the direction of
Roberts/Reed-Culver Funeral Home.
