David Lee Campbell was born December 1, 1941, in Stilwell, Oklahoma, to Wayah Campbell and Gladys Fletcher Campbell. He departed this life January 29, 2011, in Fort Smith, Arkansas at the age of 69 years, 1 month and 28 days.
David attended elementary school at Zion and graduated from Stilwell High School. He attended and graduated from NSU at Tahlequah with a BA Degree in Accounting. He was drafted into the military after high school and served in Germany, where he made new friends. He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army and returned to Stilwell, where he held various jobs.
He took advantage of the GI Bill and attended college. David worked for Cherokee Nation for many years and retired from there. He loved music and liked to make a big garden every spring, where he grew vegetables that he gave to family and friends. He enjoyed fishing at the family lake, known as Campbell Lake, where lots of fishermen from Adair County still fish today.
David was preceded in death by his father and mother, Wayah and Gladys and his brother, Jon. He is survived by his sons, David Campbell, Jr. of Stilwell and Darrell Biggers and his wife, Tiffany, of Tahlequah; his brother, Ralph Cecil Campbell and wife, Janet, of Stilwell; grandchildren, Nicholas Biggers and Blake Biggers, of Cabot, AR, Genevieve and Matthew Biggers, of Tahlequah, Morgan Campbell, from Stilwell, Colton and Erin Campbell, of Siloam Springs, AR and Logan Campbell, of Stilwell.
He is survived by his loving family, lots of lifelong friends and extended family. David was affectionately called, “Duda” and “Papa Dave” by his grandchildren.
Services will be held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 1, 2011, at Hart Memorial Chapel with Bro. Audie Vaughan officiating. Burial is in the Stilwell City Cemetery under the direction of Hart Funeral Home of Stilwell.
