George Brady went to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 26, 2015, in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. George was born in his parents� home, north of Dewey, Oklahoma, on February 22, 1922. George spent his youth helping his Dad on their small farm. He milked cows and helped his father with his bee business. As a boy during the depression, he worked for other farmers in the hay fields. He could drive a team of horses better than some men. He told of being ten years of age, with a wagon full of hay and crossing a very steep creek. The wagon was so heavy, he was afraid it was going to roll over the horses.
George graduated from the Dewey Public Schools and later from Oklahoma Agriculture and Mechanical College (OSU). George served inthe Army Air Corp, stationed in North Dakota and Fairbanks, Alaska from 1942 through 1945.
In 1941, George married Thelma C. Weston in Dewey, Oklahoma. They had two daughters, Joyce (Joy) McSpadden and Dixie Holeman. Later, he married Chris Golden of Caney, Kansas and Georgia Mills of Oklahoma City.
George worked for Keener Oil in the 1940�s and 50�s and Phillips Petroleum in the 50�s and 60�s. He always had a cabinet business that kept him and several other men busy. During the 70�s and 80�s he had his own gasoline station, cattle ranch and taught school. He and his wife, Georgia, had a registered dog kennel on their ranch in Tyro, Kansas. Here, in Stilwell, he ran a land management business. In his spare time he enjoyed raising chickens, flower gardening, reading and telling corny jokes.
During the ice storm in January 2008, George slid down his front steps while going out to check a limb that had fallen on his house. He tore his rotator cuff and injured his back. This forced him to give up most of his outdoor activities and confined him to a wheel chair. About this time, he checked himself into the Stilwell Nursing Home. Previously, he had walked there many times to eat lunch and have his dog perform for the residents. In 2013, his daughter, Joy, convinced him to move closer to her home in Broken Arrow. He was in the Broken Arrow Nursing Home at the time of his death.
George�s survivors include daughters, Joy McSpadden and her husband, Eugene, of Broken Arrow, OK and Dixie Holeman and her husband, Phil, of Grove, OK. Grandchildren include, Shannon and David Poe, Luke McSpadden, Caitlin Deville, Suzanne Fluke, Heather Way, Heidi Kamm and seven great grandchildren.
George was preceded in death by his siblings, Francis Nunn, Florence Haskins, Clayton W. Brady and Maybelle Green, also one grandson, Derek Holeman.
Graveside services were held 10:00 a.m. Thursday, July 30, 2015, at Stilwell City Cemetery with Rev. Phil Holeman officiating. Burial was under the direction of Hart Funeral Home.
