Utah Carl "Tom" Mills, of Stilwell, Oklahoma, was born February 7, 1923, to John Morton Mills and Bonnie (Davis) Mills, in Wauhillau Community of Adair County, Oklahoma. He entered into his Savior's arms on Thursday, December 22, 2011, at the Stilwell Nursing Home at the age of 88 years, 10 months and 15 days.
He married Lillie Mae Sheppard on November 26, 1947. They had two children, Carl Lee Mills and Danny Joe Mills. He went to Colorado as a young man and worked in the broom cornfields. He worked at two canning companies in Stilwell and was a farmer most of his life.
He loved joking around with people. His favorite saying was, "As sure as a vine grows up the rafter, you're the one I'm after". His favorite pastime was playing music with friends, family and at the Senior Citizens Center. He also enjoyed tending to his garden.
Utah was preceded in death by his parents, John and Bonnie Mills, sisters, Berna Dean Arnett, Johnnie Bernice Worley, Hope Evelyn Tomandao, and Joy Longshore, and his son, Danny Joe Mills.
He is survived by his son, Carl Lee Mills, of Calvin, OK; granddaughters, Shelly Jackson, of Lindsay, OK and Shonda Roberts, of McAlester, OK; several great and great-great grandchildren, brothers, Verble Mills and wife, Dahlia, of Sapulpa, OK, Denver Mills and wife, Alma, of Albuquerque, NM, Bobby Gene Mills and wife, Sue, of Jenks, OK, Coy Day Mills and wife, Julie, of Midwest City, OK.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m Wednesday December 28, 2011 at Hart Memorial Chapel with Bro. James Essary officiating. Burial will be at the Spade Mountain Cemetery under the direction of Hart Funeral Home of Stilwell.
