Funeral services for Bessie Jewel King were held Wednesday, Oct. 27, 1999, at the Christian Worship Center with Bro. Terry Guthry and Bro. Jim Varnell officiating. Interment followed in the Spade Mountain Cemetery under the direction of Hart Funeral Home of Stilwell.
Bessie Jewel King was born May 28, 1908, in Prairie Grove, Ark., to James Lewis and Winnie (Shelton) Means. She departed this life Oct. 24, 1999, in Sallisaw at the age of 91 years, 4 months and 27 days.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Raisin City Free Holiness Church in Raisin, Calif. On Aug. 8, 1934, Bessie married Fred King. He preceded her in death in 1981.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Winnie Means; her husband Fred King; one brother, Thomas Means; two sisters, Ada Brannon and Dela Johnson; one grandson, Virgil Wolf and one great-granddaughter, Sarah Beth Wolf.
Bessie is survived by one son, Hubert King of Escalon, Calif.; one daughter, Verna Wolf of Stilwell; three brothers, Troy and Lawrence Means, both of California, and James Means of Lebanon, Mo.; three sisters, Mary Padgett of Oklahoma, Sadie Helwick of Jennings and Ema Sue Hunt of Fresno, Calif., six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Bessie's husband Fred King, preceded her in death on June 9, 1981, in Selma, California. He was born February 14, 1907 in Oklahoma. Interment is in Washington Colony Cemetery, Easton, California.
