Hold Funeral Services For World War Veteran

Sulteeski Soap, Cherokee Indian, who went through the World war as a soldier in the United States army, although he could not speak the English language, was buried with full military honors in Salem cemetery, in the Lee's Creek community, Sunday.

Felix Sanders of Stilwell, also a Cherokee Indian and a boyhood friend of Soap, got Soap through the war, interpreting for him whenever it was necessary.

Soap was a private in company I, 143rd infantry. Thirty-sixth division, entering the service May 27, 1918 and being mustered out June 14, 1919. He was a member of the Stilwell American Legion post and took great pride in his army service and Legion membership.

The funeral service was conducted by Rev. George Liver, pastor of the Cherokee Indian Baptist church. The service was in the native Cherokee language.
