Lucy (Shell Sawney) Eagle was born on March 20, 1931 in Adair County to Jack and Eliza (Springwater) Shell. She passed from this life on July 22, 2018 at her home in Stilwell at the age of 87.
She married Emmett Sawney and their union was blessed with nine children. She loved fishing, quilting, flowers, cooking and traveling with her husband, Lee Eagle, whom she married on May 12, 2004. In her travels, she got to see the Golden Gate Bridge, Grand Canyon and a lot of other places. She was a member of Salem Baptist Church and worked at Zion School for over 20 years.
Lucy loved everyone and they loved her also. She was “Mom” or “Granny” to all.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Emmett Sawney, Sr.; two sons, James Sawney and Ongelo (Bodie) Sawney; her parents, Jack and Eliza Shell; two brothers, Stealer Shell and Sam Shell and one sister, Ann.
She will be missed by all who survive her including, her husband Lee Eagle, of the home, her children, Emmett Sawney Jr. and wife Debbie of Tahlequah, OK, Melvina Bowin and husband Bryan of Park Hill, OK, Kenneth Sawney of Caney Ridge, OK, Eva Barr and husband Charley of Tahlequah, OK, Viola Poor and husband Mike of Stilwell, OK, Pete Sawney of Fayetteville, AR and Glenda Watkins of Stilwell, OK; a stepdaughter, Sue Kinnisten of Michigan, 16 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren. She also leaves behind a host of other family and friends.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Thursday, July 26, 2018 at Salem Baptist Church with Bro. Gary Flynn officiating.
Interment will follow at Salem Cemetery under the care and direction of Hart Funeral Home.
