Elsie Louisa Smallen, daughter of John Wesley and Edna [Brock] Vaughan, was born in Stilwell, Oklahoma on October 13, 1921 and called home to be with her Lord on May 12, 2016 while a resident of Quail Ridge Living Center in Colcord, Oklahoma at the age of 94 years and 7 months.
Elsie married Lynn Smallen in 1941. She had many roles in her lifetime: besides being a wife and mot
her, an exceptional homemaker who planted a huge garden from which she fed her family and canned the fruits of her labor; a seamstress and 40+ year member of OHCE club, making quilts for all her family members; she was a line-worker at Campbell Soup Company and a member of the Whitmire Community Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Lynn Smallen; one daughter, Edna Leonia Green; brothers: Ed Vaughan, Willis Vaughan, Tommy Vaughan; sisters: Mary Katherine Coombes and Sarah Heustis; two great grandsons: Kevin Ray Fuson and Jeremy Wright.
Elsie leaves to mourn her passing: daughter Clair Ann Bynum and husband, Tommy, son, Wadie Smallen and wife Mary all of Stilwell, OK. Grandchildren: Jessica Lynn McCoy and husband Billy of Cookson, OK.; Rhonda Dean Earley and husband, Howard of Gentry Arkansas; Anthony Paul Green and wife, Cyndi Kay of Fort Gibson, Oklahoma; Jeffery Smallen and wife LeeAnn of San Marcos, TX; Kimberly Thornton and husband, Cliff of Hutto, TX; Patrick Ware and wife, Gina of San Antonio, TX; Justin Smallen of Pryor, Oklahoma; Rodney Bynum and wife, Jammie of Stilwell, OK; Judy Leatherwood and husband Randy of Westville, OK. Brothers: Wallace Vaughan and wife, Marlyn of Claremore, OK; Lebron Vaughan and wife, Marilyn of Westville, OK; sisters: Naomi Stephenson, Dora Coombes and husband Ira all of Stilwell, OK 16 great grandchildren and 8 great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 11 am on Monday, May 16, 2016 at Roberts/Reed-Culver Chapel, Stilwell, Oklahoma with Matt Wilson officiating. Interment followed at Reese Cemetery, Stilwell, Oklahoma.
