Virginia Sue “Cotton” Crittenden daughter of William and Laura Bell (Allison) Shell was born September 4, 1930 in Peavine, Oklahoma and departed this life on September 30, 2013 in Stilwell, Oklahoma at the age of 83 years and 27 days.
She enjoyed the duties that followed her role of being a very loving wife, mother and grandmother to her family. She also enjoyed sewing, gardening, going to the casino and watching ballgames, especially if her grandchildren were playing. She was a member of Antioch Baptist Church.
Cotton was preceded in death by her parents, her husband; Carl Crittenden, infant daughter; Lucrecia Crittenden, great great grandson; Bryor Clay Drain and siblings; William Eagleton, Elmer Shell, David Shell, Tom Shell, John Shell, George Shell, Minnie Parker, Callie Parker, Ella Nichols, Florence Eagleton and Irene Eagleton.
She is survived by a very loving family that includes her son; Carlos “Poncho” Crittenden and wife Linda, daughter; Debra Nelson all of Stilwell, OK, 6 grandchildren; Jenny Drain, Beau Crittenden both of Stilwell, OK, Sheila Eubanks and husband Stacey of Tahlequah, OK, Misty Smith and husband Chad, Gary Nelson, Payton Nelson and wife Misty all of Stilwell, OK, 12 great grandchildren; Steven Jacob Drain, Caitlyn Bailey Drain, Emma Sue Drain, Lorin Paige Hammer, Lindsey Raye Hammer, Niko DeWayne Hammer, Tavor Danyon Hammer, Conlie Lynn Smith, Jaggar Kohl Nelson, Harlie Jo Smith, Gage Decanio Nelson, Zadyn Jace Nelson. 1 sister; Edith Fourkiller of Stilwell, OK, 2 special grandsons; DeWayne Hammer and Gary Drain, special friend; Luland Tuell, several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends also survive her.
Funeral services at 2 pm on Thursday, October 3, 2013 at Roberts/Reed-Culver Chapel with Bro. Leon Hitcher officiating. Interment followed at Reese Cemetery.
