Juanita Adair Owen
January 25, 1923-December 8, 2007
Juanita Adir Owen was born January 25, 1923 to Madison Bates Adair and Lois Keller Adair at the home of her paternal grandparents on a farm in Adair County, Oklahoma.
She attended elementary school at Piney, OK., and then graduated from Stilwell High School in 1943.
In 1946 she met Melvin Harmon, who was just out of Navy. They were married in January 1947. This union lasted 13 years before they were divorced. They moved to Virginia, his home state, and she lived on the East coast for the next 48 years.
In 1961 she married Wilbur Owen, a widower and also a native Virginian. He had two college aged sons, John and Tom Owen. Wibur's wife had died a couple of years earlier. This marriage lasted until his death in 1981. No children were born to either union.
She is survived by 2 step-sons, John Owen of Southern Pines, NC, and Tom Owen and wife Joan Owen of Pinehurst, NC, 3 step-grandchildren and three great grandchildren along with three step-great grandchildren. She is also survived by her six younger siblings; Jeanne Englander of Stilwell, Oklahoma, Bryce Adair and wife Wilma of Alva, Oklahoma, Leola Harmon of Glenpool, Oklahoma, John E. (Jack) Adair and wife Virginia of Stilwell, Oklahoma, Bob M. Adair and wife Mary of Westville, OK., and Karen Cardwell and husband Roger of Hayden, Idaho. She leaves behind many nieces and nephews and their children and also a host of friends.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Wilbur, her parents, a niece and two nephews.
Juanita expired at Clarehouse in Tulsa, Oklahoma at 1:22 am December 8, 2007 after a hard fought battle with cancer.
Funeral services were held, Thursday, December 13, 2007 in the Stilwell Church of Christ with Joe Smith officiating.
Interment followed in the Piney Cemetery under the direction of Roberts/Reed-Culver Funeal Home.
