Gary Marvin Phillips was born on January 22, 1947 in Tahlequah, Oklahoma to G.W. “Chief” and Violet Lucille “Bobby” (Reeves) Phillips of Watts, Oklahoma. He departed this life on Thursday, March 7, 2019 in Springdale, Arkansas at 72 years of age.

Gary graduated from Watts in 1965 and enlisted in the U.S. Army. He served for 4 years in Germany, where he began his trucking career. After his stint in the Army, Gary started hauling freight from coast to coast for a living. He retired in 2014 after 55 years.

Gary enjoyed NASCAR, playing cards, watching old westerns and spending time at the Casino.

He will be missed, remembered and loved by all of his family and friends.


Gary was preceded in death by both parents and his brother, Ronald Keith Phillips of Watts.


He is survived by a loving family that includes his daughters: Nikki Hammer and husband Chris of Westville, Shirlene Phillips of Mesa, Ariz., grandchildren: Clinton Birge, Jr., of Siloam Springs, Ark., Kelsey Birge of Brushy, Dakota Wilson of El Dorado, Kan., Kimisha Wilson, Camrin Wilson, Patrick Wilson, all of Westville, four great-grandsons: Christian, Chandler, Calyb Winkworth, Kyller Bradley, siblings: Patricia Haddock and husband Rod of Verdigris, Sandra Scott of Siloam Springs, Ark., Darrell “Tooter” Phillips of Tahlequah, Mark “Tuffy” Phillips, Nancy “Missy” Sisco and husband Greg, of West Siloam Springs, Corbett Phillips and wife Sheila of Rogers, Ark.
 

Gary is also survived by many, many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.


Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 13, 2019 at Roberts & Hart Chapel, Westville with Bro. Jim Beavers officiating.

Interment followed at Phillips Cemetery, Westville.
