Submitted by Jan Grooms

Monroe Haskell Hembree the son of Ray and Carlotta (Adair) Hembree was born September 15, 1921 in Stilwell, Oklahoma and departed this life on January 12, 2021 in Stilwell, Oklahoma at the age of 99 years, 3 months and 28 days.

Monroe was a soul winner. His goal in life was to win souls for the Lord. He was a carpenter by trade and could build anything. He taught James how to build and told him if you're a carpenter then build a set of sawhorses. He enjoyed hunting, fishing with Cheryl Ann and peddling just about anything. Monroe read his Bible daily up until the day he died. He could hardly read, but he could read the Bible. Monroe put God first in everything. He was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church in Stilwell where he served as Deacon for over 40 years. Monroe touched many lives over the years and heaven will gain more souls because of his life. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Rose Hembree; his brothers Watie Hembree, Vernon Hembree, and Sam Hembree; and his sister Ailene Padgett.

He is survived by a loving family which includes his children James Hembree and wife Margie of Stilwell, and Cheryl Lester and the late Howard Lester of Fayetteville, AR; his brothers Dan Hembree and wife Audrie of Westville, Al Hembree and wife Sue of Westville, and Ivan Hembree of Stilwell; his sister Marie Boren of Westville; 4 grandchildren Kerri Wolf and husband Tim, Josh Hembree and wife Kendal, Dennis Lester and wife Kayla and Justin Blankenship and wife Savannah, 4 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren. Several nieces, nephews, friends and other relatives also survive him.

Graveside Service was held 2:00pm, January 16, 2021, in the Oak Grove Cemetery under the direction of Hart Funeral Home, Stilwell, OK
