Walter Harvey Unger was born on July 31, 1931 in Stilwell, Oklahoma to Walter and Bertha (Ex) Unger and left this world on Thursday, April 7, 2011 at his home in Stilwell at the age of 79 years, 9 months and 7 days.
Walter married Carol Louise Smoots on July 25, 1956 in Onalaska, Washington. They were blessed with 3 daughters: Leta Hardin and husband Randy of Tulsa, OK, Linda Winkler and husband Vohn of Stilwell, OK, Bertha LaRose and husband Terry of Stilwell, OK, 7 grandchildren: Angie Gallaway and Bryan Smith of Stilwell, Leroy Brown and wife Stephanie of Stilwell, Gregg Winkler and wife Shawna of Ft. Gibson, OK, Christa Olive and husband Michael of Marble City, Ok, Bobby Don LaRose serving in the United States Navy in Japan, Dennis Dean of Stilwell, Cassie Winkler and Arliss Baker of Fayetteville, AR, Zachariah Toney of Tahlequah, OK, 11 great grandchildren, 4 step grandchildren, 9 step great grandchildren, 2 step great-great grandchildren, sisters: Sarah Workman and Wilma Campbell of Stilwell, brothers: Pete Unger, Bill Unger and wife Deloris of Stilwell, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Walter and Bertha Unger, brothers: Joe, Gene and Bob, sister: Francis Birdwell, great granddaughter: Erica Brown Gallaway and step grandson: Jim LaRose.
Graveside services were held at Honey Hill Cemetery on Saturday, April 9, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. with Glenn Hopkins officiating.Interment followed under the direction of Roberts/Reed-Culver Funeral Home.
