Miss Betty Jean DOWNING, 19, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clem DOWNING, of Baron, died in Hastings Indian Hospital, Tahlequah, Monday night as a result of a one car accident near Baron, Monday afternoon. Betty Jean, Marlyn and Betty WATT of Baron, passengers in the car with Buddy LANGWORTHY also of Baron were returning from Stilwell when the car went out of control, smashing into a steep bank and overturning several times, according to reports.
Betty Jean was a 1962 graduate of Westville High School and was attending Haskell Institute in Lawrence, Kansas. She was home for the Christmas holidays.
Funeral service will be held Friday at 2 p.m. in the Baron Community Church. Interment will be in the Downing Cemetery at Baron under the direction of Roberts Funeral Home.
Survivors include her parents; two brothers, Leon and Alex; one sister, Shirley; two grandmothers, Mrs. Mamie BELL and Mrs. Susie DOWNING.
