Sibyl Ivelle Caughman was born June 15, 1918, in Adair County, Oklahoma.
She passed away January 7, 2012, at the Cherokee County Nursing Home in Tahlequah at the age of 93. Her parents were Houston Beanstick and Maude (Rogers) Beanstick.
Sibyl married Sanford Caughman in July of 1936, and they had six children. To help raise her family, Sibyl did door-to-door sales and sewed many of their clothes. She enjoyed outdoor activities which included hunting for arrowpoints and other artifacts, at times with the aid of a metal detector, and watching birds. She also enjoyed crossword puzzles, and in earlier years she loved to sing and yodel. In her later years she cared for her mother who lived to be 102 years old. Sibyl was devoted to her family and they to her.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Houston and Maude Beanstick, ex-husband, Sanford Caughman, son, Jimmy Dale Caughman, daughters, Linda Hummingbird and Sandra €œSis€ Girdner, son-in-law, Luther Thomas, daughter-in-law, Carol €œShorty€ Caughman, grandsons, Jack Girdner Jr, Jett Caughman and Derek Hummingbird, sisters, Helen Chitwood Rossignol and Alpha Ford, nephews, Ronnie Chitwood and Ricky Ford.
She is survived by one son, Jerry Caughman of Denver, CO; daughters, Gwynne Thomas of Oklahoma City and Kay Thurston of Bentonville, AR; son-in-law, Nathaniel €œSonny€ Hummingbird; daughter-in-law, Margie Fox, 26 grand-children, 30 great grandchildren, 3 nieces plus numerous other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 11, 2012, at Hart Memorial Chapel with Bro. Joey Ketcher officiating. Interment will follow at Clear Springs Cemetery under the direction of Hart Funeral Home of Stilwell.
