Funeral service and burial were held Tuesday afternoon at the Chuculate cemetery for Joe Adair, 32-year-old Stilwell ice company worker, who was killed Friday night in a highway accident about 16 miles south of Stilwell, just across the Adair-Sequoyah county line. Tommy Thompson officiated at the service and the Roberts funeral home was in charge of arrangements. A native of Stilwell, Mr. Adair was born here on October 5, 1923. He was not married but is survived by his mother, Mrs. Mary Adair, of Stilwell; three sisters, Mrs. Sadie Springwater of Stilwell, Mrs. Virginia Hodge of Tulsa, and Mrs. Sue Saul of Odessa, Texas; and two brothers, Samuel of Stilwell and Billy Gene, who presently is serving in the U.S. Navy. Three other persons were hospitalized with injuries sustained in the two-car crash on Highway 59. Most seriously hurt was Clarence Mickel, 54, of Bunch, driver of the car, which collided with the one driven by Adair. He was reported in critical condition earlier this week at the Sparks hospital in Fort Smith, Ark. Two other Stilwell men, occupants of the Adair car, were injured and later taken to the Veterans Administration hospital in Muskogee. They were Bill Chuculate, 30, and Andy Gonzales, 25. State Highway Patrolman H.M. Ragsdale, who with Trooper H.C. Anderson of Sallisaw investigated the accident, reported that the Mickel car apparently was speeding and on the wrong side of the highway when the crash occurred.
