Eddie Michael “Mike” Hammond, the son of Graves and Elsie (Perkins) Hammond, was born August 13, 1945, in Westville, Oklahoma. On June 21, 2012, he passed from this life to be with the Lord, at his home in Joplin, Missouri at the age of 66 years, ten months and eight days.

Mike married Sharon Williams in Westville on August 9, 1968 and to this union was born a son, Avery and a daughter, Misha. Mike graduated from Westville High School. He attended NSU and received a Bachelor of Science in education and taught math in Oklahoma for three years. He moved to Joplin and obtained a Masters of Science degree from Pittsburg State College and taught another 29 years for the Joplin Public School System. He also worked as a Walmart associate for 12 years before his retirement.

Mike accepted Christ as his savior at 11 years of age. He was ordained as a deacon in 1975 and was currently a member of Faith Baptist Church in Joplin. He enjoyed woodworking, hunting, fishing and spending time with his adored grandchildren.

Those preceding Mike in death include his parents, two sisters, Joyce and Mary Lou and one grandchild.

His surviving family includes his wife of 43 years, Sharon Hammond, of the home in Joplin; son, Avery Hammond and his wife, Kelly, of Sapulpa; daughter, Misha Hammond, of Joplin; two sisters, Betty Foster, of Ada and Linda Buffington, of Westville and two grandchildren, Abbie and Garret Hammond. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive him.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday, June 25, 2012, at Hart Memorial Chapel with Bro. Bruce Allen officiating. Interment will follow at Old Baptist Mission Cemetery under the direction of Hart Funeral Home of Westville.
